Other Learning
Today we are going to be exploring an artist called William Morris. Morris is famous for his work with patterns, which are known for their use on the walls of a house. Read through this factfile ( Download William Morris Artist Fact Sheet ) to learn more about Morris and his life.
You project today is to design your own William Morris inspired wallpaper. You will need to consider;
- The theme of your pattern.
- The colour scheme you will use.
- Which room it would most suit.
- Which features you will use from Morris (nature, birds)
Use this sheet to complete your design. Once this is completed, can you use the internet to research another artist known for their pattern work and create a non-chronological report; then perhaps you could design some wallpaper using their style and compare its effectiveness to your Morris inspired wallpaper.
Wellbeing
With anxiety over health, social distancing and changes in routine, this is a difficult time for children and adults. Here are some suggestions to help your wellbeing and mental health. This week, the activities focus on mindfulness.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is being aware of what is going on inside and outside ourselves, moment by moment. We can practise mindfulness through meditation, colouring, poses, being in nature and much more. Here are some fun activities to get you going. Look out for mindfulness colouring, crafts, breathing and yoga activities here over the next few days.
Mindful drawing:
Try drawing a picture of a really calming place. This might be of a beach next to a calm sea, it could be a still lake at night with the moon shining on the water… or whatever you think is your calm, happy place. Next, look at your picture and imagine yourself there. What can you hear, see, smell, feel? Keep looking at your picture, breathing in and out slowly and calmly.

Mindful colouring:
There are lots of books and activities on line including mindfulness colouring pages. These are fun for children and grown ups and really are calming.
