Last Thursday, children from Key Stage 2 were kindly invited to attend St John the Baptist Church for a Christingle Service. Thankfully the weather was extremely kind to us and as 120 children walked proudly through the village, the sun shone.

Reverend Plant greeted the children at the church door and everyone focussed on the beautiful sight at the altar, more than 120 Christingles which had been lovingly made by members of the church. Reverend Plant gave the children a quick safety talk about handling lit candles and the service began with a hearty rendition of the traditional carol, We Three Kings of Orient Are.

The children were told of the significance of the Christingle and how it enables Christians to celebrate Jesus Christ as the ‘Light of the World’. The service also gave us an opportunity to think of other children, who often need the help of The Children’s Society, and how we can support this.

We came back to school with both children and staff commenting that they felt part of a big family. Our thanks to Reverend Plant and all those church members who worked hard to produce the Christingles. The children are still talking about their experience in church and the significance of the Christingle.
