Smalley reach Gregg Cup final

Having reached the semi finals, Team Smalley played last night against Mundy Juniors at the Heanor Town ground for a place in the Gregg Cup final.

Late on a cold Friday night and wearing our new kit, the boys came and delivered their best game of football to date to win 2-1 and earn a place in the final next Friday evening. They missed an early lead when a thundering shot hit the crossbar and were then under pressure for a while, until we scored with a swirling lob over the keeper and a 1-0 lead. The team stayed in control until the last 2 mins when a last surge from Mundy brought the scores level. We remained composed and an amazing strike from 20 yards out in the last minute, saw us take the lead once more.

After a few anxious minutes of injury time, the whistle blew and the boys jumped for joy, as did the Smalley crowd , who came to support.

A fantastic achievement from all the team and thank you to them all for their resilience, team work and positivity throughout. Bring on the Final next week!
